7 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing - Marangu Route
DAY 1:
Board Riverside shuttle bus or Davanu shuttle bus from Nairobi
at 0800 hrs and proceed to Arusha arriving at 1300hrs.
Depart for Moshi at 1400hrs arriving at 1530hrs. Dinner and
overnight at a hotel in Moshi or (Pick up from Kilimanajaro
airport and transfer to hotel in Moshi)
DAY 2 :
Marangu Gate - Mandara Hut
Hiking time: 7 hours
Distance: About 18 km's
Habitat: Montane forest
After breakfast you meet your guides and porters. The route begins at the National Marangu Gate at 6, 000 ft. It is a 3 - 4 hour walk through the rainforest to the Mandara Hut at 9, 000 ft. You will stop for lunch en route. Mandara Hut.
DAY 3:
Mandara Hut - Horombo Hut (3840m)
Hiking time: 6 hours
Distance: About 9 km's
Habitat: Moorland
Today the altitude will begin to make itself felt cautioning one to tread slowly and enjoy the panoramic views. Today you will reach 12, 000 ft. Horombo Hut.
DAY 4:
Horombo Hut - Kibo Hut
Hiking time: 7 hours
Distance: About 15 km's
Habitat: Semi desert
After a good night's rest, move onto the lunar-like landscape of the "Saddle", the barren high altitude desert between the rounded summit of Kibo Peak and the jagged peak of Mawenzi. The Kibo Hut at 15, 450 ft is reached in 5-6 hours.
DAY 5:
Kibo Hut - Horombo Hut
Hiking time: 7 hours
Distance: About 13 km's
Habitat: Alpine desert
For some 6 hours one climbs the steepest and most demanding part of the route, to Gillman's Point at 18, 640 ft on the Crater rim. The remaining 2 hours to the true summit, Uhuru Peak at 19, 340 ft, are in fact easier. Horombo Hut.
DAY 6:
Horombo Hut - Moshi
Hiking time: 7/8 hours to descend to Moshi
Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit
Make your final descent to the base of the mountain, arriving back at midday.

Mount Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro, with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is a dormant volcano in Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania and the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres or 19,341 feet above sea level. Kilimanjaro is composed of three distinct volcanic cones: Kibo 5,895 m (19,341 ft); Mawenzi 5,149 m (16,893 ft); and Shira 3,962 m (13,000 ft). Uhuru Peak is the highest summit on Kibo's crater rim.
Above 4,000m, a surreal alpine desert supports little life other than a few hardy mosses and lichen. Then, finally, the last vestigial vegetation gives way to a winter wonderland of ice and snow – and the magnificent beauty of the roof of the continent.
